PASSION. EXPERIENCE.

On July 19th, 2013- I was playing in a men’s slow-pitch softball game, a league I played in for 4 years. After getting a hit and running the bases, I collapsed. No one was aware of the serious consequences if I wasn’t given CPR immediately, as the 911 call was reported as a seizure. Once the EMT’s arrived on scene, they realized quickly it was not a seizure, and in fact was a Sudden Cardiac Arrest! Luckily for me, the EMT’s arrived within 5 minutes of the call, and performed CPR for what they called “a lifetime.” Over 35 minutes “down” and 19 AED shocks later, I was brought to SMMC where I received 3 more shocks. Then I was rushed to MMC where I was in a medically induced coma for 3-4 days to protect my brain. I woke up very responsive but lost all short term memory, but I couldn't be more alive today!

At the age of 27, I had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, something that no one was expecting and something that no family should ever go through. In today’s world, we never know what is going to happen, and when. I count my blessings each day and have a new perspective of life.

So questions went though my head… What can I do to help? How can I help increase the survival rate for Sudden Cardiac Arrest?

… That’s how Nevers Medical Group came to light: I wanted to help save lives from cardiac events!
